PLASTER TOUCH

Sara Codarin

Plaster Touch explores the interaction between material and the human body, using fabric formworks to shape doubly curved, fluid plaster forms. Hands play an essential role in the process, holding the form in place until the plaster cures - an act of both making and care.

The human hand is a fundamental tool of exploration, communication, and cognition. It conveys thoughts through fluid gestures, embeds actions in material, and gathers sensory information about the world. This project establishes a symbiotic relationship between the body and artifact, reflecting an intimate engagement and entanglement that cultivates intelligence across space and time.

Authorship is embedded in the making process, balancing intentionality, improvisation, and a willingness to embrace uncertainty. Each object is a unique, one-off artifact, shaped through gestural collaboration between hand and intellect. While the outcomes are fully analog, they are later digitized, serving as both a record of their physical existence and a bridge between tactile experience and digital representation.
