ROBOTIC RESTORATION
Sara Codarin
The Fourth Industrial Revolution presents significant opportunities, yet its rapid technological advancements face a hesitant reception, especially in the field of conservation. Conservation sites, characterized by their reliance on traditional on-site craftspeople, demand a nuanced approach to incorporating nonstandard construction elements. This necessitates a specialized workspace where a dedicated team of professionals carefully assesses and mitigates risks, applying these unique construction components on an individual basis. The integration of robotics is key to achieving high-quality conservation outcomes, given the complexities of design, time limitations, and material considerations. This approach is explored through the definition of a workflow that leverages fabrication-aware computation for the creation of one-off outcomes using automation. Text-to-image AI is used to visualize speculative scenarios illustrating how industrial robots could be assimilated into restoration processes for preserving Cultural Heritage.
